Casting (Planning)

In planning our casting we needed to make sure the actors fit the descriptions that we needed. Though they were wearing masks, the build and height we needed to take into account. The reasons for this was because if we had a short actor, for example someone under 5'6, when we filmed him alongside the others his height may demean and reduce the authority of the character when compared to the others. If we have an actor who is 7ft tall, he would look out of place.

However we thought it would be too difficult to get a specific height and have each actor be at that height - it was ideal, but not realistic. Not every actor is going to be 6ft tall and have a barrel chest. Therefore we didn't put this into action as it would take too long and would reduce actor availability seriously.

Instead we opted a range for the characters as a group and specific requirements for each character themselves. We wanted the character heights to be between 5ft 9, and 6ft 4. This fits well within the average for the country and meant finding actors would be easier. The size of the actors was dependant on each character. For example, the Pig was seen as a rather dominating character, instigating the deaths of himself and the others. Therefore he had to be relatively larger in size and stature. The Chicken and Horse had to be roughly the same, but didn't need to be as accentuated.

We used social media in our group to ask various friends whether they want to take part in our film. Fortunately for us, a couple of my good friends are actors that took part in the school play and one of which is considering Drama School.
